★★★Zhao Song/Free Artist /Cellist/Art Meditator
Zhao Song was born in Tianjin in 1976. He started to learn violoncello at the age of six. Shortly he showed his special gift in many competitions held in Tianjin and the nation. Thereafter, he attached the primary school of the Central Conservatory of Music. His erudite attitude towards music and unique artistic style have been gradually developed through the long period of schooling.
He was the doyen of violoncello of ‘China Youth Philharmonic’ from 1996 to 1998. In 1998, with the help of Chinese famous educationalist Guang-ren Zhou and Professor Zhen-shan Wang, he participated in the establishment of ‘piano trio at the forbidden city’. Mr. Guang-ren Zhou and professor Zhen-shan Wang were appointed as art directors. The trio routinely rendered performance in the ‘Weekend Concert’ held by Beijing Concert Hall. Meanwhile, it played an active role in many other public performances.
From 1998 to 2001, he was invited several times to attend the master classes organized by the committee of the Beijing International Music Festival, where he obtained a lot of opportunities to learn from different world famous musicians. Especially he had been instructed by the world famous musicians from Amdesus Quartet, Bartok Quartet, and influential performers such as Charles Neidich, Issac Stern and Mstislav Rostropovich. He has been acclaimed as an ‘exceptional violoncello talent’. In 2000 he joined the ‘Quartet of Central Conservatory of Music’ and engaged in comprehensive activities including artistic exchange, concert performance and music recording. In the same year, he, as a chamber performer of the ‘Quartet of Central Conservatory of Music, was invited to join the ‘Xin De Telecom Concert’ during the third International Music Festival in Beijing. He won the scholarship regarding cultural and artistic exchange program provided by Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst (DAAD) in 2001. *In 1999, he took part in the shooting of musical documentary ‘From Chairman Mao to Mozart’ in the United States.
Since many years, he has dedicated himself in music exchange and popularization in dozens of colleges in China. His great passion together with faith in arts expressed by romantic performance is very impressive. Since 2002, he, as the status of a free artist and cellist, has begun to plan concert independently. In 2004, he was invited by the famous musician Tian-wo Yan, and Xiang Li, the professor of the Central Conservatory of Music, to form a small trio group. On behalf of the Central Conservatory of Music, they attended the international master classes held in Cheng Du. He was tutored by the German musicians Jörg-Wolfgang Jahn and Michael Hauber, who highly appraised him. Since 2004, he has participated in the artistic activities held by ‘Beijing Artists Gathering Spot’, where his extemporaneous performances are highly appraised by both domestic and foreign artists and designers.
After XiaoDuo Chen, a coloratura soprano, joined in the trio in the June of 2004, these four neo-musicians have been forming a new and fresh music creation group. The naturalistic classical concerts organized by them have rethrived the stagnant classical music market, and their concerts are widely appraised by those loving music. At the end of 2005, he set up ‘Landscape Chamber String Music Studio’ together with JingYe Zhang, planning to introduce western chamber classical music, new music works produced by youth Chinese musicians and other various kinds of string music to Chinese audiences. In 2005, He participated in the establishment of ‘Classical D.N.A. Trio’ together with his good friends---violinist JingYe Zhang and cellist Zhao Song. The purpose of the trio is to provide an opportunity for young students to appreciate chamber classical music. The birth of the challenging chamber trio has raised young people’s great concerns in the 21st century, when the survival of classical music is extremely endangered.
